Be part of the vision; be part of RIBA.
The RIBA is a global professional membership body, and a cultural organisation, driving excellence in architecture.
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum depending upon experience
Location: London/Hybrid working, with two days a week in the London office
Hours: 35 hours per week, full time, permanent contract
Our Media & Communications team is responsible for delivering impactful external communication campaigns, building a network of advocates and developing relationships with the media to help raise the profile of RIBA, architects and architecture.
About the Role
From announcing the UK’s best new building (RIBA Stirling Prize), to sharing thought leadership content on economic research and policy, being part of our in-house team is incredibly varied and exciting.
As one of our Media & Communications Officers, you will work closely with our Policy and Public Affairs team and act as an account manager for specific areas of our organisation including Practice, Education, Economic Research, and EDI.
Policy and Public Affairs – taking the lead on developing media and communications campaigns, drafting punchy media responses to government and industry announcements affecting the built environment and architecture, developing relationships with media contacts and coordinating impactful corporate communications.
This portfolio includes our support for Practices, focusing on industry standards, training and policy, and Economic Research – where you will develop communications campaigns around future trends, AI, business benchmarking, and more.
It’s an exciting year to join RIBA as we continue with our House of Architecture transformative programme to make architecture more accessible for everyone – our members, our profession, the world.
Building on our nearly 200 years of history, a major investment will galvanise our mission to support architects to make the future a better place.
It will reinforce RIBA’s identity as an outward looking cultural institution, help us promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of architecture among a diverse audience, and celebrate our members’ work.
You will be ensuring our news lands in the media and engages our target audiences and stakeholders.
What are we looking for?
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- In-house or agency experience in delivering media and communications campaigns relating to policy and economic research.
- Experience placing stories in regional, national and trade media outlets, spotting opportunities in the news agenda, handling reactive queries and managing reputational risk, at account management level.
- Experience delivering effective, multi-channel external communication campaigns that help to grow and diversify audiences.
- Ability to write accurate and engaging content for digital channels using SEO principles which is accessible, persuasive and drives website traffic.
- Stakeholder management skills – as a creative and credible individual, you’ll work closely with senior colleagues, as well as external partners and sponsors. You’ll need to be innovative, curious, calm under pressure and able to deliver to demanding deadlines.
- A keen interest in architecture, the built environment or the creative industries.
Our Benefits:
The RIBA offers an amazing employee benefits package which includes (a) a generous pension scheme with employer contributions (up to 12%), (b) life assurance, (c) annual leave of 27 days plus bank holidays and paid closure of 3 discretionary days between Christmas and New Year.
