An opportunity to work with one of the world’s leading architectural collections

You will join a small and enthusiastic Library team dedicated to making a world-class architectural collection accessible to RIBA members, researchers, students and members of the public. You will have a crucial role in supporting the smooth running of the Library and in the provision of enquiry and information services.

Because of the public-facing nature of the role, you will be expected to work at the Library’s London base, our RIBA building at 66 Portland Place.

About the Role

You will work regularly on the Library’s Enquiry Desk helping Library visitors identify and access collection materials by making effective use of catalogues, RIBApix (the RIBA’s Digital Photograph database) and other information sources.

You will provide first-line support answering written enquiries to the Library and join a team projecting a helpful, friendly and professional image of the RIBA to all our external partners and stakeholders

You will assist in the collection and gathering of user statistics; assist with our document delivery service and invoicing.

You will help with a range of other support duties including collection management, signage, stationery orders, shelving, stock checks and debit/credit card transactions.

What are we looking for?

  • For this public-facing role you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to understand and respond to enquiries quickly, accurately and sensitively.
  • You will be computer and IT literate with a sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is an essential requirement in all aspects of this job, from data and stock management to financial transactions and invoicing.
  • You should have a demonstrable interest in library and information work and a keen interest in architecture and/or the related arts is desirable.
  • Previous experience of working with library management systems or experience of working in a library or membership body is desirable.
  • While not formally a trainee role; the position would suit someone looking to gain post-graduate experience of work within the library and information sector.

If you would like to apply for the position, please view the full job description below (found at 'supporting documents') and submit your CV and covering letter using the form below. Additionally, please ensure that you complete our Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form which will be submitted separate from your application.
