Cork City Council is a large urban local authority with over 1600 employees across over 40 locations within the city. There are 31 Elected Members of the Council representing five wards in the city. The Council has an annual revenue budget of just over €268 million for 2023 and provides a wide and diverse range of public services such as parks and recreation, housing, management of the public realm, libraries, physical planning and development, community, culture and place-making and the delivery of infrastructure projects. Internal services include Finance, ICT, People & Organisation Development and Corporate Affairs. The Council is committed to increasing its capacity and capability for change to deliver improved public service. Cork City is undergoing a period of employment and population growth. In line with the provisions of the National Planning Framework, the City will continue to be one of the fastest growing areas of the country with its population set to increase by over 50% in the period to 2040. This expansion will be underpinned by significant public and private sector investment.

A vacancy now exists in Cork City Council for the role of City Architect

In Cork City Council, the Architects Department provides architectural, project planning, procurement, urban design, and conservation advisory and support services on a cross-departmental basis. Over the years Cork City Council has developed expertise in the areas of housing design, sustainable building construction, design and architectural conservation. The Council is the owner or developer of a significant stock of social housing, historic buildings, civic and community buildings and amenities. The role of the City Architect is to lead this department and play a central role in the development of Cork City as a sustainable European city in terms of best practice architecture and urban design. The City Architect is a member of the Council’s Senior Management Team and reports to the Chief Executive.
