Head of Building Regulations Policy

Salary: £67,100 - £76,990

Location: This role is Pan Wales however occasional travel to the Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil offices is required. Colleagues are expected to work from a blend of locations, including working at home, as required. The agreed office location will be the designated place of work and any remote or home working arrangement does not constitute a change to your designated place of work or contractual terms and conditions.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in the development and implementation of Welsh Government policy for buildings in Wales.  The role will include management of a team responsible for the implementation of the Building Safety Act, the Building Act 1984/ Building Regulations 2010 and statutory guidance.  In addition, the post holder will contribute to existing stock decarbonisation and other Welsh Government environmental and climate change policies and programmes.

Following the Grenfell tragedy and subsequent 2018 Hackitt ‘Building a Safer Future report’ review of building safety, Welsh Ministers have embarked on a fundamental programme of change intended to deliver a building control system to ensure public confidence in the way higher risk buildings are designed, constructed and occupied in Wales.

The role will be responsible for a team of specialist, policy and administrative staff dealing with construction policy.   Applicants should hold a recognised construction professional qualification e.g. a registered architect, chartered engineer or chartered building control surveyor or equivalent.

Bydd deiliad y swydd yn gyfrifol am dîm o staff arbenigol, staff polisi a staff gweinyddol sy'n ymdrin â pholisi adeiladu. Dylai fod gan ymgeiswyr gymhwyster proffesiynol cydnabyddedig ym maes adeiladu e.e. pensaer cofrestredig, peiriannydd siartredig neu syrfëwr rheoli adeiladau siartredig neu gymhwyster cyfatebol.
