WHO WE ARE AND WHY WORK WITH US

We’re KIN.  We specialise in sustainable and affordable housing.  We have a flexible model, working as developers, development managers, sustainability consultants, architects, and community-led housing enablers.

We’re currently working on an exciting range of projects — from our own Passivhaus developments to net zero Energiesprong social housing retrofits, from affordable community-led housing to an ambitious local authority retrofit task force.  You can expect to be involved across a range of projects.

You might like working with us if you are passionate about sustainability and social justice in the built environment; and are excited about applying your skills and creativity to solving problems and delivering good.  If all that sounds good, then we might be a good fit for you.

You can also have a look at our website at www.kin.co.uk

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • You’ll assist in undertaking and presenting technical feasibility studies and development appraisals  (RIBA Stage 0-2) for KIN projects and for clients.
  • You’ll communicate and coordinate information with consultants, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • You’ll help coordinate and produce planning submissions.
  • You’ll produce technical/construction information, including working with manufacturers (including off-site manufacturers) to refine design proposals.
  • You’ll help build and improve procedures and systems, to streamline project delivery and quality assurance.
  • You’ll report to the two directors.

OPPORTUNITIES YOU'LL HAVE

  • As a small company with an inclusive and collaborative approach:
  • You’ll have opportunities to experience a range of different projects and aspects of our work.
  • You’ll be able to help shape projects and, potentially, the business itself.
  • You’ll have a wealth of learning opportunities on cutting edge sustainable projects.
  • You’ll have opportunities to develop and take on responsibilities and leadership.

THINGS WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Well organised, able to effectively manage your time across multiple tasks and projects, and be able to juggle creative thinking with a rigorous eye for detail.
  • Good experience of architectural technical design and coordination (RIBA Stage 4), including coordinating with consultants and manufacturers, and an understanding of sustainable and passive design principles.
  • Architectural Part 1 / Part 2 qualification (or equivalent).
  • Good knowledge of UK planning, building regulations (England and Wales), and design standards.
  • Excited about problem solving and learning.
  • Fluent English speaker.
  • Experience with:
  • AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Sketchup.
  • InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Excel.

OTHER THINGS WE'D LOVE

  • Good with clients.
  • Experience on net zero, Passivhaus, Energiesprong, or retrofit projects.
  • Experience on multi-unit residential projects.
  • Experience running projects.
  • Experience considering project costs, business case, and whole life value.
  • Experience on site (RIBA Stages 5-6).
  • Experience with community engagement or community led housing groups.
  • Experience with:
  • PHPP energy modelling software.
  • LCA / whole life carbon calculations.

Company

We are developers, designers, and community enablers. We create sustainable homes and vibrant communities.

We’re not like other developers.

‍Tackling climate change is at the heart of everything we do. We build beautifully designed sustainable homes and neighbourhoods that are a joy to live in and kind on the environment.

We are also able to work with local communities and community-led housing groups, empowering them to deliver homes and neighbourhoods tailored to local needs and to shape the towns and cities they live in.

‍We use an innovative, integrated design-and-development model, with an in-house design team and the latest manufacturing technologies. This allows us to deliver higher quality sustainable homes, work more responsively with communities and other partners, and even develop new sustainable technologies where we need to.

We provide a range of development and design services:

DEVELOPMENT & DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIPS: KIN develops sustainable homes and provides collaborative and turn-key development solutions. We work independently, with partners and clients, and as an Enabling Developer for community-led housing groups – including cohousing and custom-build.‍ We build new homes and also deliver deep energy retrofit of existing homes and rooftop 'airspace' developments.

DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT: KIN provides development management services at every project stage, including for local authorities and community groups developing homes for themselves and their local areas. We also provide light-touch early stage community enabling advice.

ARCHITECTURE+ & SUSTAINABILITY: KIN undertakes architectural design and sustainability services in-house for all our development projects – all led by our qualified architects and Passive House designers.‍ We also offer architectural design and sustainability services as part of our Development Management service, and as a stand alone consultancy service for sustainable housing projects.
