We are looking for committed, ambitious and knowledgeable senior heritage consultants to join our heritage consultancy team. These position offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the direction of heritage consultancy in the North region managing change to significant places and developing our business and heritage team. If you are an experienced Senior or Associate Heritage Consultant looking to take that next step, we are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can inspire creativity and confidence amongst clients, consultants and colleagues alike, deliver excellent advice, promote Purcell and conservation, and pursue new business opportunities.

You will act as project leader on a variety of projects in your region, making decisions, providing heritage advice, advocacy and guidance and preparing fee proposals and tender submissions for heritage projects. Your focus will be providing bespoke and high-quality advice, with outputs including conservation management plans, significance and capacity analysis, and heritage impact assessments.

A key element of the role will be to continue to grow our client base in your region, requiring experience in business development, networking and drawing upon existing contacts. There is an expectation, that in time, you would take on management of other team members in your region, managing resource, reviewing work, building a pipeline of work for the team and growing the team’s skills.

Skills Base

Essential:

  • A skills base in building conservation, buildings archaeology, heritage planning or other field is a must, with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of acting in a leadership and management capacity
  • Excellent skills and demonstrable experience of archival and desk-based research, on-site built fabric analysis and producing well-written reports.
  • Proven track record in providing advice as heritage lead.
  • Experience of planning and managing your own workload and the workload of others and running multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Experience of preparing fee proposals and bids.
  • Working knowledge of current English heritage legislation, policy and guidance.
  • Knowledge of the market in part of the north region.
  • Membership(s) of professional institutions, such as the IHBC. or CIFA

Highly desirable:

  • Experience of managing a team.
  • Demonstrable track record in work winning for yourself and a team.
  • Experience of working with architects, engineers and statutory stakeholders including conservation officers and Historic England.
  • A UK driving licence.
