Mador Architects are looking for a fluent French-speaking Architect with experience working in and clear understanding of the intricacies of architecture, construction and planning processes in France to work on a live construction project.

The practice works on architecture projects integrated in the landscape with sites around the UK, largely in the South-West, Wales, London and France. The ethos of the studio leans increasingly towards ecological preservation, landscape restoration and environmental sustainability. Projects in the studio include a private house on an exposed cliff in north Devon, an eco resort in south Devon, a new rural house in Italy, a renovation project in Wales, as well as some London based private residences.

This role is London based yet will require regular travel to site in France, at least twice a month, so would suit someone who enjoys travel.  The project we are recruiting for is a destination holiday resort in central France on a large estate with two chateaux, golf course, existing vernacular buildings, new luxury spa, new buildings including apartments, resort facilities, sports provision, aquaplay and treehouses.  Correspondence with the Contractor team, planning department and local statutory bodies will be in French, whilst correspondence with the international Project Management, Client and Architecture team will be in English, so technical fluency in both languages is essential.  Registration as an Architect in France would be preferable given the still unknown situation following Brexit but this is not essential.

The role requires you to work independently with initiative and as part of a team, communicating programme, progress and outputs regularly in dialogue with the rest of the studio. The studio is design-orientated and decisions on finishes and details arise out of ongoing review. Charles Mador has direct input on all projects.

Technical detailing, construction stage and contract administration experience is a requirement. Each Architect in the studio works across all work stages, so an all-rounder would be well suited to the role. Good writing skills, organised working and strategic thinking would be a benefit to fulfilling this role. Proficiency in CAD is essential. Vectorworks is the programme used in the studio and we would expect good proficiency within a fortnight of starting. Physical model-making, 3D computer modelling / rendering, hand-sketching and a good eye for graphic presentation using Adobe creative suite would be appreciated. Travelling to site, often in remote locations accessible only by car means that a driving license is preferable.

We are a small, friendly studio based in West London. The working environment is informal and all staff share in the day to day tasks of running of a small studio. The practice seeks to maintain a healthy work life balance.

The practice is an equal opportunities employer.

The potential candidate will be offered a competitive salary based on experience. We are looking for someone to start end of September 2022.

Please indicate your salary expectations and when you are available to start in your covering letter.
