Location: London / Remote (Hybrid working)

Hours: 14 hours per week, 2 day job share, permanent contract

About the Role

This two day job share role will be part of the RIBA Practice and Individual Knowledge Department, which drives and influences innovation through its knowledge and expertise, and by inspiring professionalism by developing and delivering professional support services for members. The role holder will report to the Head of Technical Practice and be responsible for coordinating projects relating to technical knowledge in architecture and construction, design leadership, Standards and Building Regulations.

The Grenfell Tower tragedy and ongoing inquiry alongside the government’s review of the regulatory regime reveal the need for significant change in regulations, industry processes, professional competence and leadership. The RIBA has been working to support members and the wider construction industry on building safety and the future regulatory regime and the role holder will play a significant part in this work.

The construction industry is continuing to evolve through digital transformation, new construction technology and innovative business models while responding to the climate emergency and the Technical Practice Adviser will support our members and the wider construction industry to meet these challenges.

The RIBA is looking for an individual with a construction industry background and experience in technical design, regulations, standards, procurement, contracts and appointments. The successful candidate will be able to facilitate working groups, conduct research, write papers and engage in discussions of a highly technical nature with influential industry experts.

Wondering what we are looking for?

  • Ability to evaluate complex information and exercise sound judgement in reaching conclusions.
  • Experience of applying and communicating current and detailed knowledge and expertise of the legal, technical and regulatory aspects of the construction industry.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with an ability to produce high-quality written material for differing audiences – academic, professional and industry.
  • Experience of working with Microsoft applications, databases (CRM) and data analysis, and web editing.
