Job Details

The RIBA is a global professional membership body, and a cultural organisation, driving excellence in architecture.

Salary: c£65k

Location: London/hybrid

Hours: 35 hours per week, permanent contract

This role leads the RIBA’s policy development and political activity, working with the RIBA Board, Council and Practice and Policy Committee and expert member groups, and engaging with politicians, civil servants and sector stakeholders, to develop both proactive and reactive policy content and campaigns.

This portfolio includes:

  • Leading and overseeing the development and implementation of a proactive programme of policy and public affairs activity to affect change in Whitehall, Westminster and beyond.
  • Identifying and leading partnerships with other organisations and influential individuals to support the RIBA’s policy objectives.
  • Representing the RIBA at the highest level on legislative and regulatory issues relating to architecture through targeted external relationships.
  • Providing expert advice on policy and public affairs issues, opportunities, risks and approaches to senior colleagues including the President, Chair and Chief Executive.
  • Developing and supporting the Policy and Public Affairs Team, managing capacity within the team and overseeing programme budgets.
  • Working to ensure that the RIBA’s work on policy and public affairs work is visible to members.

The role requires close working relationships with the RIBA Communications team to ensure that our messages are politically relevant and well targeted, while ensuring the RIBA’s reputation as an impartial and expert learned society is protected and furthered.

The successful candidate will need to be an experienced policy and public affairs professional with excellent, organisational, presentation and negotiating skills.  Some specific knowledge of architecture and the built environment is desirable but not essential.
