East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the East Suffolk Council's newly formed Specialist Services Team as a Design Champion and Specialist Services Manager

In this new role, you will lead and manage the multidisciplinary specialist services in providing professional design and conservation, landscape and arboricultural, ecology and rights of way advice, both internal and external to the Planning Service and the Council, to ensure a coordinated and high-quality input to support the planning service and its wider strategic ambitions.

You will champion the delivery of high-quality design and placemaking across the service and the Council, including the co-ordination of on-site quality monitoring for the delivery of schemes, in collaboration with Development Management officers. You will also provide a lead role in the provision of urban design professional advice on major development schemes, including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.

With a Full or Affiliate Membership of RIBA or RTPI (or related professional institute), and extensive experience in design and place-making in towns, villages and the countryside, you should have extensive theoretical, technical and practical knowledge of urban design alongside experience in a range of wider planning issues.

Confidence in negotiation, the ability to foster robust working relationships, strong analytical skills and excellent design skills and aesthetic awareness are all essential for this position.

If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you don’t meet all of the essential requirements, please apply. We’d appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
