Be part of the vision; be part of the RIBA.

The RIBA is a global professional membership body, and a cultural organisation, driving excellence in architecture.

Salary: £14,365 per annum pro-rata (full time equivalent £20,111)
Location: London
Hours: Part time, 25 hours per week, 6-month fixed-term contract

Do you like engaging with the public, and are passionate about architecture? Do you have an ambition to build a career in the arts/cultural sector?

The Gallery and Programmes Trainees deliver a high-quality audience-friendly service as part of RIBA’s overall programme of exhibitions, talks and workshops about architecture. They ensure the safety of artwork in the Architecture Gallery and provide administrative and organisational support for public events, learning workshops, library services and technical gallery installations.

RIBA delivers inspiring exhibitions and public programmes, providing a platform for rigorous debate and visual experiences about historical and contemporary architecture. Since opening our Architecture Gallery in 2014 we have hosted historical exhibitions from Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Palladian Design, to contemporary site-specific installations such as the critically acclaimed The Brutalist Playground by Assemble and Simon Terrill; and Freestyle – Architectural Adventures in Mass Media by Space Popular. Our purpose is to connect the RIBA collections with contemporary practice to create engaging and thought-provoking programmes for people of all ages and backgrounds.

As Gallery and Programmes Trainee, you will work within the wider front of house team at 66 Portland Place, RIBA’s Grade 2 Listed HQ Building in the heart of London. You will gain an invaluable insight into the development, production, and installation of exhibitions, working closely with architects and artists. You will also assist with the planning and delivery of events and workshops and provide administrative support within the library. On discussion with the Gallery Manager, there is scope to tailor this work experience to your interests and desired area of personal development.

You should bring an understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and to making the arts accessible to all, as well as a flexible approach to working hours with ability to work occasional evenings. Gallery and Programmes Trainees will be expected to work 25 hours per week within the Architecture Gallery at 66 Portland Place, including regular evening and weekend shifts.

The RIBA offers employees a range of staff benefits including 26.5 days of annual leave + half-day for Christmas shopping, paid closure between Christmas & New Year, season ticket loan and generous pension scheme. For more details on our benefits click here
