Join a multi disciplinary team working to create a world-class Botanical Garden destination in the Isle of Man, a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

We are recruiting an expert Architectural Technologist for a long-term opportunity on our team, taking numerous integrated design projects from inception to completion and post-occupancy evaluation. The setting is a new Botanical Garden taking root in the Isle of Man, and projects include restoration works, new build mixed-use, and innovative construction solutions.

The team is a multidisciplinary group who share a passion for excellence, innovation and sustainability. We aim to transform a private estate into a public environment that will be appreciated over many generations. The project is a celebration of global plant diversity, a showcase for ideas in construction, conservation, and agriculture, and a place where our relationship to the land can be refreshed and enhanced.

This position requires a hands-on professional with strong construction knowledge, technical skills and the ability to detail a project throughout all stages of construction. An ability to work proactively and to engage in the design process alongside other architectural professionals will be integral to the role. We have a special interest in both authentic, traditional materials together with new materials and construction technologies that require technical research and assessment within the team. Furthermore we are designing for material longevity with consideration given to long term maintenance strategies.

Skills and experience

Candidates should have experience in diverse construction projects that require careful consideration. We are a small team and we enjoy tackling difficult problems with a hands-on approach to problem solving. Suitable qualifications and chartership, preferably CIAT, is essential.

The successful candidate will work within a design team to develop and detail construction packages. Extensive Revit experience is a requirement. We use Autodesk’s cloud based modelling, collaboration and management tools to collaborate with global experts. This position will lead BIM execution across all participating disciplines. The candidate should also be comfortable on-site, and the ability to quickly convey construction ideas to the on site teams via hand sketches and schematics is essential.

Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Professional qualification and chartership, preferably CIAT accredited
  • Conversant with the UK Building Regulations and Planning Policies
  • Experience in a variety of construction methods
  • Interest in traditional methods and materials
  • Interest in materials and methodology innovation
  • Knowledge of NBS specification
  • Fluency in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Strong technical skills and construction detailing
  • Personal motivation to deliver exceptional work
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, precision and accuracy
  • Good interpersonal skills and effective liaison with external specialists
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Positive work ethic and self-motivated approach

We offer a competitive salary & benefits package. As a team, we enjoy the opportunity to improve their knowledge, skills, and experience working on projects with a unique scope and brief, in a beautiful and remarkable setting. The Isle of Man is a British Isle, the only nation that is entirely a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The lifestyle here suits people who like the outdoors - fresh air (sometimes very fresh indeed), dark skies, and scenery. Coasteering, hill walking, rambling, diving, and sailing are all popular. While the island does turn into a frenzy of activity during the annual madness of the TT motorcycle race, it is otherwise peaceful, relaxed and authentic. At once familiar and yet different, it is a superb place to raise a family, or create and enjoy a world-class botanical garden.
