MHW are looking for an experienced architect to join their innovative, design led practice situated in the heart of the Stroud Valleys.

The practice would like to find someone to fill an associate role and to be involved in helping to oversee a portfolio of exciting rural projects in the southwest. The role would ideally suit a project architect looking to take the next step in their career, who has previously been involved with a design led practice and understands the nuts and bolts of running a project at all RIBA work stages. The ideal candidate would help to oversee a large part of the practice portfolio and would make strategic decisions about how it should progress. This would include undertaking project reviews with other members of the team, working directly with clients, conducting regular financial reviews, guiding projects in accordance with  the vision and ethos of the practice and dipping into projects to help with technical concerns when required.

- Have a good knowledge of all stages of the RIBA Plan of Work.

- Have good technical construction knowledge and an excellent understanding of construction contracts.

 - Be personable, enthusiastic and excited about working with a small- medium design lead team.

- Be interested in the future working of architectural practice and developing the practice as a forward thinking place to work.

- Hold a current full driving licence with access to a car

We encourage a good work-life balance

Beautiful work setting

Location:

The office is based in a characterful converted mill building along a canal in the Golden Valley of the beautiful Cotswolds, percolating in a rich cultural heritage of art, craft, and industry. One of the windfalls of lockdown has been the realisation that we don't need to all be in the studio space together all the time, so we are enjoying a blended approach to working, which means that at least for the time being members of the team can have much more geographical freedom.

More about us:

MHW wants to work with the most creative and exciting minds in and around architecture. We have an agenda for culture change towards net zero, biodiversity revitalisation, and the deep connection of people and place. We use innovative technology where we can to further this. To change culture you also need to tell great stories. With an increasing range of exciting projects and areas of research, we actively look for people who are up for, and fantastic at, telling great stories through their architecture, and who are excited by occupying the sometimes unnerving space at the edge of innovation.

Where we hope to be in 3 years time:

Develop our niche as rural innovators, continuing to design and oversee highly crafted buildings designed using cutting edge technology, whilst more rigorously understanding and monitoring the performance of our buildings in use. Diversifying our practise, project sectors and client base, whilst challenging the wider construction and housing industry with different models for well-designed and affordable homes and construction techniques.
