Are you an Architect looking for a fresh challenge?

We have a brilliant opportunity for a talented Architect to join our in-house Property Development team based in the London area.

This will initially be a 12-month fixed-term contract, to cover a period of maternity leave within the team.

This role will work from a combination of the PureGym London office (c.1-3 days per week) and home, depending on business need, as well as visiting sites as per project requirements.

As the UK’s leading gym chain, we have ambitious growth plans that encompass opening gyms for new members in locations across the UK. This means working in a diverse range of properties and taking on the challenge of creating and maintaining gyms that deliver our low-cost, high-quality fitness experience.

Your purpose in this role is the full accountability for the architectural design of multiple simultaneous property development projects, across both new and existing sites.

At acquisition stage, you will play a key role in assessing the high-level feasibility of potential new sites prior to acquisition. Using your expertise, you will provide the appropriate technical evaluation of each site and corresponding architectural and design requirements.

Each project will look to you for your specialist technical input regarding building control, fire regulations and technical standards into the design of each site.

You will provide necessary input and appropriate decision making at key stages of the property development process, using governance forums where required. Your contribution to the continuous improvement of gym formats and standards will also be key.

To take on this role, you will need to be a Qualified Architect with industry-recognised certification and credentials, educated to degree level and with a commitment to furthering your personal and professional development.

Experience delivering multi-site property developments consistently and at scale is crucial, ideally for large-scale organisations in customer-facing industries such as leisure, retail, hospitality and retail banking.

Ours is a fast-paced environment where decisions move quickly, so someone comfortable with this and who can successfully resolve difficult situations and make critical decisions under pressure is crucial. You will take a pro-active, accountable, hands-on and adaptable approach to your work as you operate in an ever-changing environment.

We are looking for someone who is process orientated, able to drive efficiency by identifying and removing waste through lean thinking. You will be managing multiple projects simultaneously so the ability to juggle your workload effectively and balance priorities will be key.

You will be an excellent communicator and relationship builder cross-functionally within the business, able to convey complex messages clearly as well as influence at senior level.

Commercially astute, you will be able to evaluate investment decisions with our members’ expectations of the brand balanced with the required levels of return. We are also looking for someone who will always be member-focussed, bringing to life our value of ‘Delight’ when striving to improve the experience within our clubs.

Our teams are united in a shared purpose to improve the health of the nation, so a passion for health and fitness is central to this role.

Finally, the Property Development team is close-knit and so being able to support your colleagues and be a strong ambassador for the team within the wider business will also be key.
