Lead Architect – Interchange Station

As the Lead Architect for Interchange Station, you will work within the Phase 1 Engineering team and the Interchange Station Integrated Project Team (IPT), and interface with Chief Engineer’s Team and across the HS2 Infrastructure Directorate to assure that architectural specifications and requirements are fully developed and are being met. You’ll also be the key architectural interface or design client with the contactors who are developing the design and constructing the works.

About the role:

  • Support the Head of Engineering and Environment Interchange Station in relation to the architectural and design related disciplines ensuring that the duties of the Principal Designer Representative as mandated within the CDM Regulations 2015, are discharged by the IPT lead designer.
  • Support the Head of Engineering and Environment Interchange Station in relation to the architectural and design related disciplines in discharging the duties of the Supervisor under the NEC Contract.
  • Enables and supports project delivery as the asset discipline technical authority and subject matter expert (SME) for all Architecture and design-related matters.
  • Provide specialist technical knowledge and technical leadership for the Architecture and design related disciplines and associated delivery support to the HS2 business.
  • Defines technical scope input for procurement and helps assess tender returns.
  • Manages the delivery of the Architecture and design-related discipline requirements by the design suppliers in accordance with the specification and requirements required by the Infrastructure Directorate (ID).
  • Interfaces with ID to ensure the evidence is provided that the technical and assurance requirements are met by the suppliers in their documentation.
  • Provides technical input for Planning Application packages and conditions closure.
  • Provides the lead for the integration of the Architecture and design-related discipline with the other project disciplines and delivery area teams including civils, rail, systems, environment, operations, security, commercial development and urban integration, third party interface, and construction logistics and planning etc.
  • Provides a design concept guardian role for the station design through its design development and construction.
  • Supports the station team through detailed design with the Design and Build Contractor, to ensure the project specification and requirements are met.
  • Obtains Infrastructure Directorate design approvals and sign-offs.
  • Ensures safety is a key priority in all aspects of the role.
  •  Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

About You:

  • Presentation skills to deliver complex written and oral communications and presentations suitable for a broad audience and a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Influencing and negotiating skills – including the ability to compare, assure and provide analysis on information coming for a variety of sources.
  • Registered architect (ARB/RIBA).
  • Must be conversant with relevant architectural and/or engineering standards and be able to interpret in a railway/ transportation environment.
  • Understanding of how architecture and design related disciplines fit within the overall multidisciplined context and dependencies.
  • Experience of large complex programmes and/or projects (preferably large-scale transportation projects) with an understanding of how the discipline (Architecture and design-related disciplines) fits within the overall multi-disciplinary context and interdependencies.
