Job Details

The Bazeley Partnership is an award-winning Chartered Practice with a diverse team of skilled designers based in the Cornish surfing town of Bude. The practice has a strong reputation for delivering innovative contemporary solutions to the unique challenges of dramatic and sensitive coastal contexts.

Our office is based in a converted farm building in Bude, on the edge of the Atlantic and a short walk from the South West Coast Path, Blue Flag beaches and the town centre. Bude is surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastline and is in a prime position to explore the sights and sounds of Cornwall and North Devon.

We are an award-winning practice (recently winning the Best Individual New Home in the South West at the LABC 2020 Awards); working across a range of sectors including high quality bespoke homes, high quality residential developments, hotels and leisure, and conservation. Current projects are located in Cornwall and Devon, the wider South West, and further afield. We are also committed to developing projects that enhance our local and wider communities, including schools and community buildings, and have an excellent reputation for the conservation and restoration of heritage buildings.

We have recently been commissioned for a number of unique new projects and are looking to expand our team with a Part II Architectural Assistant or Architectural Technologist. We can offer a competitive salary and the opportunity to work with design freedom and to develop the professional skills necessary to further your career, through working with a talented team of colleagues with broad skillsets, in a location that provides a very high quality of life.

In line with current Government Covid-19 guidelines, we are currently operating remotely (working from home) although are intending to return to our Bude office when safe to do so. If remote working is still advised at the time of appointment, support will be given to the successful candidate to enable working from home until full-time or rota-based office working resumes.

Roles and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be working across all RIBA work stages and be encouraged to develop their client communication skills. They will be assisting senior architects on larger projects and also be responsible for the day to management of their own projects under the guidance and oversight of a senior architect. Roles and responsibilities will cover all key areas necessary for professional development, in particular but not exclusively:

  • Working within a small design team to assist in the delivery of projects across all RIBA Work Stages.
  • Preparation of background research of sites, including photographic studies, site appraisals, and measured surveys.
  • Preparing and assisting in the production of drawings, visualisations, schedules and reports.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of UK planning policies and building regulations.
  • Experience of developing a scheme from concept through to completion.
  • Preparation of technical information for building regulations and tender documentation, for a range of architectural projects including new and existing buildings.
  • Confident and professional approach to working in a team and alone.
  • Coordinating and liaising with clients and third party consultants.
  • Work to timescales and project deadlines.
  • Complete work to a high standard with a willingness to learn and progress.

Qualifications, Skills and experience

Part II applicants should have completed a RIBA recognised Part II post graduate course.
Technologist applicants should have completed a CIAT recognised degree course and have a minimum of two years' experience.

Applicants should have design flair and excellent freehand drawing, verbal and visual presentation skills, and candidates will need to demonstrate proficiency in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Revit and Sketchup. Knowledge of visualisation software is also beneficial.

Experience of working within the domestic residential sector is preferable, and applicants should have a clean UK driving licence, be fluent in English, and have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).

Salaries and benefits

The position is offered on a permanent basis and holiday allowance increases with length of employment. The salary will be negotiable and around £23k to £28k depending on experience. Regular CPD and career progression will be encouraged.
