Active Norfolk supports the county to be a place where being physically active is a normal part of everyday life for all. Where opportunities are designed around individual and community needs and promoted so effectively that being physically active becomes the norm for Norfolk.

To improve people’s health and wellbeing across Norfolk’s urban and rural places, it’s crucial that good street and neighbourhood design improves access to places for active use. This exciting new role, working across Active Norfolk and Norfolk County Council’s Environment Team, will lead the strategic priority of Active Environments in Norfolk, enabling people to have greater choice in how they are physically active in the places they live, work and play.

You’ll work in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders including planners, designers and developers to integrate active design principles into policies and working practices. The work will tackle barriers to active travel, promoting design considerations and incentives to improve community access to open spaces and facilities, enabling better local access to sport and physical activity provision.

Your experience planning programmes and strategies that require adaptable approaches, frequent engagement and compromise will be important. You’ll use your collaborative skills to build rapport, positively influencing stakeholders to bring them onboard with our vision. Your specialist knowledge could be from a town planning, transport planning, landscape architecture or urban design environment. If you have a passion for improving health and wellbeing outcomes for individuals and communities, this is the role for you.

In return we think we have lots to offer. There’s the role itself with the opportunity to truly make your own, the working environment at Norfolk County Council where we put work life balance at the forefront; offering flexible, smarter working arrangements, all underpinned by leading edge technology. There’s also our physical environment in Norfolk, where you’ll be surrounded by a unique blend of beaches, broads, countryside and culture.

We might be biased, but we think it’s a great role in a great place. If you think you have what it takes, we would love to hear from you.

All our office-based roles are currently working from home as part of our Smarter Working plans and to support the health and safety of all our colleagues. We anticipate that working remotely will be a key feature of this role and when offices re-open your office base will be Easton College, Norwich. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity.
