Summary

We are seeking two Architects to join Historic England for a unique opportunity to work on a new grant scheme helping to protect locally important buildings by advising on repairs and maintenance planning, as well as on Historic England`s High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) programme and place making strategy.

This is a 12-month opportunity and we are flexible on location. You can either be based in one of our offices in the North or South or home working.

To be successful in this opportunity you will need a professional qualification in architecture with current ARB registration.

We offer a wide benefits package including a competitive pension scheme, a generous 28 days holiday, corporate discounts, free entry into English Heritage sites across the county and development opportunities to ensure you achieve your goals.

What you will be doing:

As part of Historic England`s Regions Group, the post-holder will use both their expert technical knowledge and their excellent interpersonal skills to advise on and develop sustainable proposals for repair and adaptive re-use of traditional buildings, as well as to advise change proposals in historic townscapes and landscapes. The post will be principally working across some of Historic England`s current and future national programmes of work.

This post would suit someone seeking to gain the experience necessary to allow them to move into the heritage field. You will have the opportunity to draw on and learn from the wealth of experience in historic building conservation that resides with our existing cohort of regional architects and building surveyors, as well as helping to train those teams in skills related to sustainable design for existing buildings.

Who we are looking for:

-Wide-ranging experience of the repair of traditional and existing buildings.
-Good interpersonal, and oral and written communication, skills and the ability to adapt communication styles to a variety of circumstances
-Excellent knowledge of and experience in alteration and adaption of traditional buildings, and of design in an historic context.
-Excellent knowledge of and experience in working with communities ensure their voice is heard in the planning and design of their local environment.

We are an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusion. If you have a disability, we would be happy to discuss reasonable adjustments to the job with you. Having just won the Gold Award from MIND, we also recognize the importance of a healthy work -life balance.
