Haigh Architects is seeking a recently qualified architect or RIBA Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in Kendal, UK.

Haigh Architects is one of Cumbria’s leading architectural practices, renowned in the field of historic buildings and creative design of new buildings in sensitive locations. We currently employ 7 people from 2 strategically located UK offices in Kendal & London. The role will be based primarily in our Kendal office, which lies in the foothills of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. Job purpose

Haigh Architects is seeking a recently qualified Architect or RIBA Part 2 architectural assistant. This role is aimed at a talented individual seeking to develop their architectural career by joining a growing team, focussing on conservation and building within sensitive settings. The successful candidate would be responsible for or assisting in the day-to-day delivery of one or more of our projects, reporting to a team leader or Director. The role would suit a motivated individual who has good technical and drafting abilities as well as design flair, report writing and research skills. There will be an opportunity to further develop their skills in a challenging yet supportive environment.

Essential skills and experience:

  • strong academic record gained from an RIBA recognised university/ architectural school. Qualified to RIBA Part 2, or newly qualified, having passed RIBA Part 3 professional exam and ARB registered
  • a minimum of three years’ practical experience gained within a UK-based practice
  • knowledge of and interest in architectural history, and an enthusiasm for working both with historic buildings and new design
  • knowledge and understanding of working drawings and the UK building regulations
  • excellent 2D and 3D CAD skills
  • excellent graphic and presentations skills
  • strong written and oral communication skills, and command of office systems, using Word, Excel and NBS Specification

Desired skills and experience:

  • qualified to RIBA Part 3, ARB registered
  • previous experience of historic building conservation projects. The candidate would be expected to develop and pursue training in architectural conservation whilst in the practice
  • good knowledge of traditional construction (lime mortars/ stone/ brickwork/ lead/ slate/ timber)
