Head of Department and Chair in Architecture

The School of the Arts wishes to appoint a Head of Department and Chair in Architecture of appropriate experience, leadership ability and international stature. The successful candidate is likely to have professional qualifications in Architecture (RIBA/ARB or equivalent). Suitable applicants with qualifications in construction and structural engineering or architectural history who have extensive experience in a professional and/or academic setting will also be considered. The appointee will have a PhD in the field of architecture and/or the built environment (not including planning). 

As the Head of Department, working alongside the Dean of the School of the Arts you will be an active member of the School Management Team and will provide academic leadership in contributing to the strategic plan and annual operation. With a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, you will lead and develop the School of Architecture, refining and implementing our education and research strategies with plans to diversify student intake, enhance staff research and collaboration, and ensure an outward looking research agenda with embedded opportunities for impact activity. 

As Chair in Architecture, you will assume a Professorial role within the School of the Arts and will be expected to establish research and teaching contributions alongside the headship responsibilities.

The role of Head of Department will be for 5 years, with start date negotiable, but no later than 1 October 2021, and will be offered with a permanent post at Professorial level.
