Audit Committee - Independent committee member

Salary: Unremunerated (travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed)

Time Commitment: approx. 3/4 meetings a year

Location: Virtual - currently the RIBA is working remotely due to COVID.  London, UK - future location

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is a global professional membership body driving excellence in architecture. The organisation serves its members and society in order to deliver better buildings and places, stronger communities and a sustainable environment.

The RIBA delivers key services to members, as well as advancing architecture more generally – through its awards, library, gallery, public programme and website.  Being inclusive, ethical, environmentally aware and collaborative underpins all that the RIBA does.

Following an extensive review, a new governance structure is now in place for the organisation which has seen the creation of a new Board of Trustees who are responsible for the oversight of the executive management of the RIBA.

The new RIBA Board is looking to appoint three Independent committee members to its Audit Committee.

The Audit Committee oversees the RIBA’s internal audit and control procedures and the relationship with its external auditors.

Ideally, you will demonstrate a strong interest in architecture and the impact that the RIBA and its members have in the world.

The work of the Audit Committee includes:

  • Oversight of the RIBA’s internal audit and control procedures and the relationship with its external auditors.
  • Ensuring the proper protection of the interests of RIBA stakeholders in relation to financial reporting and internal financial control.
  • Overseeing and reviewing the RIBA’s approach to risk management.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of the external audit processes and recommending the appointment or reappointment of the external auditors.

You will evidence clear critical thinking and an ability to challenge opinions and be available to commit to the time as required by the Board of Trustees - which will be approximately four meetings a year.

You will have a collaborative, empathetic and diplomatic style and an enthusiasm to add value to the Audit committee.
