Location: Flexible, currently working from home, with travel to London office when required once reopen
Hours: 21 hours per week, 1 year fixed-term contract: 4 January 2021 to 4 January 2022
The RIBA is seeking an outstanding journalist and editor as Contributing Editor to The RIBA Journal. The Contributing Editor is to enhance the overall quality of the written and intellectual content of the journal. Collaborating closely with the existing editorial team, they will write and commission online and print content that provides relevant, original and important contributions to the insight and knowledge of architects.
The RIBA Journal is the most trusted and widely read architecture magazine in the UK: it has a print circulation of 25,000 and average monthly online page views of c 100,000. It is highly respected and cherished within the profession for its editorial quality and content – it is cited in RIBA member surveys as one of the most valued membership benefits.
Retaining the magazine’s reputation for editorial excellence and its value to RIBA members, the Contributing Editor will have a future-focused and enlightened outlook, in line with RIBA’s strategy as a global and diverse professional membership body.
Main responsibilities:
- Writing high-quality features and articles, drawing on a deep and wide expert knowledge of the field of architecture.
- Generating ideas for articles and features.
- Commissioning and planning content with the in-house editorial team, contributors and freelance subeditors.
- Delivering high-quality copy and editing to tight copy deadlines.
Engaging with editorial and production processes, the Contributing Editor should have strong organisational skills and an ability to oversee project delivery processes.
