Contract Type

Full Time

Millar + Howard Workshop, (MHW), based near Stroud, Gloucestershire is looking for enthusiastic Part II Architectural Assistants to join its team.

MHW wants to work with the most creative and exciting minds in and around architecture. We have an agenda for culture change towards net zero, biodiversity revitalisation, and the deep connection of people and place. We use innovative technology where we can to further this. To change culture you also need to tell great stories. With an increasing range of exciting projects and areas of research, we are looking for part 2's who are up for, and fantastic at, telling great stories though their architecture, and who are excited by occupying the sometimes unnerving space at the edge of innovation.

Who we are looking for:

-        Individuals with experience working in a design-led practice with a passion for innovation and craft.

-        Strong communication and graphic skills with attention to detail

-        Confident working independently and taking on high levels of responsibility

-        Keen to contribute to the collaborative and friendly studio culture

-        Enthusiastic and show initiative

-        Working knowledge of the UK Building Regulations and Plan of works

-        Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK

Benefits:

Part II's – starting salary £25,000 with opportunities for progression

Flexi-time policy

Annual leave allowance starting at 23.5 days per year + bank holidays + Christmas shutdown

Work on a range of projects alongside more experienced staff

Friendly and collaborative office environment with a flat management structure.

Career and personal development support

We encourage a good work-life balance

Beautiful work setting

Location:

The office is based in a characterful converted mill building along a canal in the Golden Valley of the beautiful Cotswolds, percolating in a rich cultural heritage of art, craft, and industry. One of the windfalls of lockdown has been the realisation that we don't need to all be in the studio space together all the time, so we are enjoying a blended approach to working, which means that at least for the time being members of the team can have much more geographical freedom.

Where we hope to be in 3 years time:
Develop our niche as rural innovators, continuing to design and oversee highly crafted buildings designed using cutting edge technology, whilst more rigorously understanding and monitoring the performance of our buildings in use. Diversifying our practise, project sectors and client base, whilst challenging the wider construction and housing industry with different models for well-designed and affordable homes and construction techniques.
