Location: London

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week) 12 month fixed term contract 

Our Director of Governance and Legal Affairs provides leadership on a broad range of governance and legal affairs.

The RIBA has a unique constitution and a key element of your role is to interpret and advise on all related matters. This means providing support to the President, Chair of the Board, Honorary Secretary, CEO and others as well as overseeing election processes and managing documentation for the Council and Board.  Ensuring all parties operate within the RIBA Constitution and promoting a culture of governance awareness and compliance are key to this role.

You will work closely with our executive and non-executive teams and with a range of internal stakeholders including Finance, Procurement and HR. You will provide legal advice and guidance in relation to procurement, compliance, employment and other matters as well as overseeing our trademark portfolio and defending pre-action process and litigation against the RIBA.  You will also manage a small team including the supervision of a Paralegal, supporting her development to become an accredited solicitor.

You are a qualified solicitor and ideally have experience within a similar role in a membership or trade body, governed by a Royal Charter.  You have strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills and the ability to provide advice and guidance on a wide range of issues to a diverse audience.
