About the role

We now have an opportunity for a well organised and dynamic individual to join our Capital Development Programme team as Senior Project Coordinator. Based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) on our Harwell Campus, the post holder will be responsible for the management of the project coordination and administration activities within the project office function. You will support our project managers with managing consultant and contractor appointments, including obtaining fee proposals and ensuring that stated deliverables are achieved.

Within this role you will own and develop project documents and processes to ensure efficient use. You will develop improvement processes and perform quality assurance checks on reporting information and standards. You will also monitor projects to ensure application of processes and policies, escalating where required and ensure all required documentation is prepared and distributed to stakeholders in a timely fashion and in a consistent manner across the programme.

About You

We are looking for someone with a passion for project delivery who is numerate, with clear communication skills and excellent organisation skills. You will have previous experience in an office administration role within the property or construction environment. You will have strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and across diverse backgrounds. You will be comfortable working in a high-pressure environment and be adaptable in your approach to work.

As part of our redevelopment of our capital development team, we are looking for:

Senior Project Coordinator:

The Senior Project Coordinator will Support project managers with managing consultant and contractor appointments, including obtaining fee proposals and ensuring that stated deliverables are achieved. You will be a key point of contact for this project, liaising with internal project finance stakeholders to support and provide accurate and consistence project finance information. You will also be the central point of your Estates colleagues and will work closely with the Head of Capital Development to resolve any issues that may affect programme progress.

Construction Project Manager:

The Construction Project Manager will be responsible for managing the delivery of significant and complex construction projects. You will manage the interface between the client team and the design team, appointed consultants and main contractors.

As Project Manager, you will be the Estates lead on major projects through all stages ensuring schemes deliver on budget and program.   Working within a team, you will be will be expected to manage schemes typically in the region of £5m - 50m, but could include managing a significant portfolio of lower value works. The nature of STFC’s science dictates that most major projects are likely to be complex and unique and will require you to ensure scientific goals are achieved whilst maintaining control of budget and programme constraints, delivering maintainable and resilient buildings.

Head of Capital Delivery:

Reporting to the Head of Estates and Facilities Management, the Head of Capital Deliver will lead and be accountable for the management and delivery of Major the construction works for STFC, currently excess of £200m. You will also lead on commercial negotiations with suppliers’ and achieving associated approvals within government departments.  You will be responsible for the management and delivery of STFC major development schemes through end to end RIBA stages.  You will contribute and support the development and implementation of the Estates Services objectives and strategy. You will also be accountable for the establishment and maintenance of appropriate governance throughout each of the project lifecycles and establish a robust, transparent and consistent Project Management processes, using appropriate systems to support. Additionally, you will foster a ‘one team’ approach and culture amongst the delivery team and wider Estates Services team.

Head of Capital Development:

As the Head of Estates Capital Development you will develop a vision for the potential of the STFC Estate and have the opportunity to influence key choices and priorities. You will be instrumental in designing and agreeing both long-term masterplans and a 10 year delivery plan including preparation of a compelling business case for investment. You will align our ensure infrastructure to the Estate ambition, and demonstrate a strong commitment to a sustainable Estate and its environmental impacts.

Within this role, you are a senior leader across the STFC Estate, reporting to the Head of Estates and Facilities Management. You will lead on the further development and implementation of the Estates Strategy (currently at drafting stage) ensuring development is forward thinking with science delivery at its heart. You will be instrumental in shaping and delivering the Environmental Sustainability strategy where initiatives are Estates led. You will lead on the creation of STFC masterplans and development strategy, ensuring alignment with respective strategic business cases and also lead on relevant commercial strategies with to achieve associated approvals within government departments. You will manage the Capital delivery team, (current construction £250m +) ensuring high performance and efficient delivery, with clear governance and assurance.
