Salary: £30,720 - £35,766 per annum (full time equivalent)
Location: London RIBA offices, 66 Portland Place, W1
Hours: 21 hours per week, 1-year fixed term contract (Maternity Cover)
The RIBA cares for one of the largest and most diverse architectural collections in the world. From 15th century books and drawings to photographs documenting architecture around the world today, the collections constitute a unique body of knowledge, shared through exciting access, learning and exhibition programmes and online through our RIBApix Image Library.
There are over four million items in the collections, including archival documents, drawings, and photographs. The Photographs Collection contains around 1.5 million items, from the 1840s to the present day, primarily documenting the history of architecture and architects. It includes the archives of such eminent photographers as John Donat, Eric de Mare and Edwin Smith as well as the archive of the Architectural Press. This role contributes to the planning and delivery of an accessible and dynamic public outreach programme in order to ensure discovery of our collections by our members, the profession and the general public. It identifies and acquires new material by purchase, gift or bequest; documents the collection, creating cataloguing and other records and oversees volunteers contributing to the documentation programmes to facilitate access to the collections; provides informed and welcoming information services for specialist and lay audiences and RIBA staff and facilitates public consultation of the collection; and contributes to the management and conservation of the collection in order ensure its continuing preservation and ease of access. There is a close working relationship with colleagues who maintain and add to the RIBAPix Image Library.
If you have:
- Post-qualification experience gained in a museum, library or archive environment, or equivalent
- A strong knowledge of contemporary collections management theory and practice, and a sound knowledge of photographic processes and types.
- Experience and knowledge of born-digital collecting and digitisation
- Strong cataloguing experience
