Job Details

Be part of the vision; be part of the RIBA.

The RIBA is a global professional membership body, and a cultural organisation, driving excellence in architecture.

Salary: Competitive
Location: London
Closing Date: Tuesday 3 December

The organisation serves its members and society in order to deliver better buildings and places, stronger communities and a sustainable environment. The RIBA delivers key services to members, as well as advancing architecture more generally – through its awards, library, gallery, public programme and website. Being inclusive, ethical, environmentally aware and collaborative underpins all that the RIBA does.

Following an extensive review, a new governance structure has been approved for the organisation which will see the creation of a new Board of Trustees who will take over responsibility from the existing, much larger, Council for the oversight of the executive management of the RIBA. This is an historic shift in the way the RIBA operates and means that for the first time the organisation will have a non-executive board with a mix of skills specifically tailored for its future needs. The new Chair of the Board of Trustees will play a key role in working with the President, the Council and the Executive to define the vision and set the strategic direction.

The RIBA is now seeking exceptional candidates for the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees. The Chair will see that the Board implements best practice governance processes and ensures the RIBA’s assets, finances and property portfolio are properly managed. The Chair will be responsible for Trustee recruitment, Board performance and succession planning. They will need to be able to create the right environment for a high performing, united Board of Trustees capable of making sound yet ambitious decisions. Candidates for this role will bring senior strategic leadership experience gained in a similarly complex and high-profile organisation. They will have a deep understanding of governance, ideally gained through experience of working at Board level in a non-executive capacity. They will ideally have a strong interest in architecture and the impact that the RIBA and its members have in the world. The post-holder will be collaborative, empathetic and have a sensitive and diplomatic style.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the RIBA on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference EAZQB. Alternatively telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours). Applications should be received by noon on Tuesday 3 December.
