If [Insert Contintental Lager] did Architecture Jobs... this would be it. If you're looking for the kind of responsibility that puts you at the head of an office of 15 - 20 people, as a sort of 'branch manager' at a practice inside the AJ Top 50 then this might be worth applying to.

There are those that go out there networking and selling to win business, and there are those that look after their clients and deliver fantastic results to retain business and ensure a future relationship. We're looking for somebody with the latter philosophy. Your targets will be based on client retention rather than new business, you'll meet them by looking after your staff, ensuring that the technical output coming out of Birmingham is perfect and that the clients are kept informed and feel valued. The question is, do you have the knowledge and experience to do this?

One thing to consider might be the fact that you will need to focus on delivery. If you like lot's of design work, then you'll certainly get to do some, but for the most part you'll be managing and mentoring others to deliver large Apartments, Commercial (including Highrise), Education, Hotel and Leisure and Industrial schemes across the UK.

You will also still be a hands-on Architect or Technician. You won't spend all of your time on the tools, but you'll still be running jobs, putting buildings together and running DTMs as well as managing others to do the same on their own projects.

This is a business you'll be proud to work for. Not just because they win fancy awards or are growing at an exponential level or because they're a big name in the industry, more because they offer some real rewards to all of their staff. For you those rewards will look like extremely large lucrative annual bonuses, and serious progression.

A lot of job adverts talk about serious progression. The reason you'll get it here is because in the Birmingham office there is no Director in the spot above yours. The Directors, though very active, are out of the office 90% of the time. They need you to become the figurehead for the region; the technical and day to day leader of the business. Once they see you finishing jobs on time and in budget, retaining clients, other key staff and getting repeat business, in their own words you'll be "more than just important to them".

In all honesty, there isn't going to be many more opportunities like this. If you're an experienced Senior Architect ready for that step up, or currently an Associate in any kind of practice that manages people day to day then this is the logical next step. That is if you see a job move as the only way for you to earn more, move up the ladder or take on more responsibility in a big practice.

You could be an Architect or a Technician.
