With over 28,000 students benefiting from a Plymouth education, both in the UK and overseas, the University of Plymouth is the first ‘post-92’ institution in the country to have opened its own medical and dental school and is a top 50 research University. With a truly global outlook and a unique partnership approach to its students, staff and partners, it seeks to advance knowledge and transform lives, through excellence in teaching and learning, world-class research, sustained international impact, and a stimulating student experience.

As part of the University’s continuing transformation, it is now seeking to appoint an exceptional Director of Estates & Facilities. The University has committed to an ambitious, long-term estates and infrastructure programme, including a ten year masterplan in the order of £200m. This includes major new (£40m +) cap-ex developments and wide-reaching Campus Optimisation and Campus Presence Programmes focused on people and place. This position therefore offers an exciting opportunity to reinforce the centrality of the University to the city and its communities, ensuring that the estate acts as a fundamental enabler for achieving academic ambition.

Reporting to the Registrar and Secretary, and a key member of the integrated Professional Services Management Board, the new Director will lead all aspects of the Estates Directorate. S/he will have substantial senior leadership experience, gained across multiple areas of relevance to the portfolio, combined with a proven ability to deliver change within multi-faceted environments of genuine complexity. Having the intellectual acuity and emotional intelligence to engage effectively with the broad range of internal and external stakeholders, inherent in a progressive academic environment, will also be vital, but whilst previous experience in the higher education sector is preferred, it is not essential.
