Job Purpose:

  • To assist the Directors and Senior Staff in the preparation of design, presentation and technical material in support of the Practice’s portfolio of planning casework and architectural projects.

Key areas of Responsibility:


  • Overview and delivery of architectural services in association with appointments from RIBA Plan of Work stages 0 - 7

In particular but not exclusively:

  • Assisting in the preparation of fee quotations and appointment documentation for clients and consultants
  • Research of site details including measured and photographic site and building surveys
  • Preparation of presentation material for client submissions including 3D images, printing, collating and binding submissions
  • Preparation of designs for planning applications and appeal documentation
  • Preparation supporting documentation for planning applications and appeals
  • Monitoring of the process and progress of planning applications and correspondence with LPA
  • Preparation of technical details for architectural projects including new buildings and historic environment (training will be provided)
  • Providing details of work to be undertaken for fee invoices
  • Keeping clients informed of progress
  • Preparation of technical information for building regulations approvals and tender documentation
  • Assisting in the supervision of building contracts.
  • Maintenance and development of office drawing protocols and standard drawing/document formats

General office duties

  • Assisting in maintaining records including job filing and electronic records
  • Assisting in answering telephone calls and taking messages when administrative staff are unavailable
  • Assist the general running and administration of the practice by carrying out administrative and support tasks as requested by the Directors and Senior Management



  • Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture (exemption from RIBA Part II)


  • ARB Registration
  • Chartered Membership of the RIBA



  • Good presentation skills
  • Ability to write clear technical English
  • Good telephone manner
  • Effective team working
  • Ability to carry out thorough and logical research and record finding


  • Experience of the planning system

Required Knowledge:


  • Computer literacy (MS Office applications)
  • CAD literacy 
  • Building technology


  • Knowledge of planning theory and processes
  • Proficient in ArchiCAD


  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to handle and prioritise a busy and diverse workload
  • An effective team player
  • Meticulous approach to dealing with data

Additional details:

The post is full time. There may be some out of hours working with time off in lieu

Use of a car and a full driving licence are required

The practice is committed to supporting the training and professional development of staff members through accredited courses and post-qualification CPD (10 days study leave will be available for attendance at a RIBA Part 3 course)

Working hours are 9.00 to 5.30 with one hour for lunch
